Hi, my name is Emma Kirby and I am an Architectural Project Coordinator based in Nashville, TN.

This website highlights my undergraduate work and academic experience at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where I earned my Bachelors of Architecture Degree in 2025.

Misson

  • I’m passionate about designing with purpose — creating architecture that connects people to place through thoughtful materiality, environmental sensitivity, and cultural awareness.

  • I believe architecture has the power to regenerate — to adapt, restore, and sustain both built and natural environments.

  • Through my work, I aim to design spaces that not only serve communities but inspire a deeper understanding of how design can nurture connection, accessibility, and resilience.

Experience

  • Architectural Intern — Nashville, TN

    Worked under Life and Work Places market sector under the guidance of Adam Nicholson, Gresham Smith’s Market Design Leader of Life & Work Places.

    • Assisted in project coordination, drawing set development, and client communication.

    • Led preparation of BOMA, LOD, and elevation drawings for a large-scale mixed-use project.

    May — Aug 2025

  • Participated in UTK Summer Studio led by Clay Adkisson, William Rosenthal, Harriett Brooks, and Adam Nicholson, in partnership with the Civic Design Center and Gresham Smith.

    • Focused on Urban Planning and Design, Real Estate Development, and Landscape Architecture, engaging directly with the Nashville design community.

    • Participated in the ULI Urban Plan Workshop, developing a comprehensive urban redevelopment proposal through stakeholder analysis, land-use planning, and community engagement strategies.

    June— Aug 2024

  • Architectural Intern — Greenville, SC

    Worked under Healthcare market sector under the guidance of Aaron Jeffers, a Principle at McMillan Pazdan Smith.

    • Supported the project team during design development and construction documentation phases by preparing presentation materials and assisting with drawing sets.

    • Contributed design insights and project documentation for clients including AnMed, Prisma Health, and CaroMont Health.

    Dec 2024— Jan 2025

  • Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam

    Enrolled in three-week study abroad program through the Interior Architecture program focused on Interior Architecture, Craft and Cultural Heritage.

    • Engaged with local artisans and craft villages to learn traditional techniques in textiles, ceramics, and woodworking.

    • Collaborated with local institutions and students in Indochina, participating in hands-on design workshops which explored cultural traditions and identity.

    • Visited historic landmarks to observe how craftsmanship and cultural values are expressed through architectural form and detail.
